PANAJI: The final year examination conducted by the Goa University will be held from February 16 onwards in offline mode as against the earlier date of February 7, the Bombay High Court at Goa was informed.
The exams were initially scheduled for January 17, but after some students filed a petition in the high court, the university issued a circular postponing the exams to February 7.
Now, the university has said that it will abide by the recommendations of the state expert committee and have them from February 16.
The advocate for a group of petitioners asked the court if the expert committee could reconvene on February 15 after the assembly elections to assess the situation. He said the election could be a super spreader with lakh people voting.
The high court also stated that Goa University would be sensitive to the problem and take cognisance of it, and the division bench comprising justices Mahesh Sonak and RN Laddha advised students to go vote when there is less crowd.
Students had approached the court seeking either the deferment of the exams offline or held online.
The government had declared all the educational institutions’ closure until February 15, with a fresh decision awaited, considering that COVID-19 cases are now flattening. The High Court has accepted the submission and disposed of the petition.
