PANAJI: Day 3 of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Championship for Women witnessed dominant performances at both the Goa University Ground and Rosary College Ground.
At the Goa University Ground, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, secured a thumping 7-0 win over Goa College of Home Science. Star striker Simran Narvekar led the charge with a stunning hat-trick, scoring in the 2nd, 34th, and 45th minutes. Aparna Dabhale (3’), Saniya Pednekar (8’), Tanvi Parulekar (36’), and Leandra Fernandes (37’) added to the tally. Simran was declared the Best Performer of the match for her outstanding display.
In the second fixture, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, outclassed Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College, Pernem, with a 10-0 scoreline. Goals came in quick succession from Vinoshka Fernandes (2’, 32’), Swellen Fernandes (11’, 26’), Merecia Tavares (19’, 47’), Ria Rajesh (24’, 35’), Fatima Braganza (20’), and Shaundelle Gomes (40’).
The third match saw Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, register a comfortable 4-0 victory over Govt. College, Sanquelim, thanks to an extraordinary performance by Merlyn Mascarenhas, who scored all four goals (20’, 23’, 25’, 34’), earning her the Best Performer award.
Over at the Rosary College Ground, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, edged out Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College, Assagao, in a tie-breaker 3-0, with goals from Raynel Dias, Miffy Rebelo, and Ajury Silva. In the second match, Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar, defeated Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, 2-0, courtesy of goals by Shayna Shirodkar (30’) and Grisha Shirodkar (62’).
The championship will continue on September 19 with several exciting fixtures. At the Goa University Ground, Govind Kare College of Law will face Shree Damodar College, Margao, at 10:00 AM, followed by Vidya Prabodhini College taking on St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, at 2:00 PM. In the men’s category, V.M. Salgaocar Institute of Hospitality will meet S.R.I.E.I.T. College, Shiroda, at 3:15 PM. At Rosary College Ground, Carmel College, Nuvem, will clash with PG Goa University at 9:00 AM, followed by P.E.S. College, Farmagudi, versus Don Bosco College, Panjim, at 11:00 AM. The men’s fixture will see Goa College of Agriculture face Goa College of Hospitality at 2:00 PM.
