TALEIGAO: The Seach committee of the Goa University (GU) have sent a sealed confidential list of 5 candidates to the Chancellor, Governor of Goa P.S.Sreedharan to decide on the next Vice-Chancellor (VC).
Prof Malapati K Janarthanam, of the Department of Botany, is currently officiating as Vice Chancellor, following the term of Varun Sahni ending on August 18. The much awaited announcment of new VC is expected to be made in a day or two.
“The Search Committee of GU has sent a sealed confidential list of five selected candidates to the Chancellor for deciding the next VC of Goa University to be appointed for a period of five years,” sources said
Sources also said that the new VC can be appointed for a period of 5 years or till the completion of 65 years.
Sources said that applications for the post of VC were invited online by the Governor’s office in June and 260 candidates had shown interest of which 23 candidates were interview by the search commitee of the university in online mode on August 25.
As per GU law, the vice-chancellor should be a academician, with a minimum of ten years of experience as professor in a University system or ten years of experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research or academic administrative organisation.
The search committee is chaired by the nominee of the Chancellor Dr Rajput Former Director NCERT with nominee of the EC Goa University Dr Shekhar Mande, DG, CDIR, and nominee of Goa government Director of DRDO Dr Sathish Reddy.
Sources said that if the Chancellor does not approve of any of the names recommended by the selection committee, he can call for fresh recommendation.
