Taleigao: Day 2 of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Championship for Women witnessed dominant performances, walkovers, and some outstanding individual displays at both the Goa University Ground in Taleigao and Rosary College Ground in Navelim.
At the University Ground, Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, cruised to a 4-0 victory over Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts & Commerce, Canacona. Star forward Anaida Dias was the standout performer, scoring all four goals in the 4th, 11th, 21st and 51st minutes, earning the Best Performer award. In the second match, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, defeated Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar, by 3-0, with goals from Klancy Cruz, Riya Gomes and Tamanna Shaikh. The final fixture of the day saw a one-sided contest, as Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, hammered P.E.S’s Rajaram & Tarabai Bandekar College of Pharmacy, Farmagudi, 7-0. Tanvi Khedekar stole the show with four goals, while Riya Folkar added a brace and Rajlaxmi Arondekar completed the tally. Khedekar was named Best Performer for her commanding display.
Over at the Rosary College Ground, Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Nuvem, and P.G. Goa University progressed without breaking a sweat after receiving walkovers against V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, and Goa College of Art, Altinho, respectively. The only match played at the venue saw P.E.S’s Ravi S. Naik College of Arts & Science, Farmagudi, defeat the Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim, 3-0, thanks to a hat-trick from Divya Sartarkar, who was deservedly named Best Performer.
The tournament will continue on September 18 with a packed schedule. At the Goa University Ground, Taleigao, Goa College of Home Science will face St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, in the morning, followed by Rosary College, Navelim, against SSA’s Government College, Pernem, and Government College, Quepem, taking on Government College, Sanquelim. Meanwhile, at Rosary College Ground, Navelim, DM’s College, Assagao, will meet Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, in the morning fixture, and later C.E.S. College, Cuncolim, will clash with Fr. Agnel College, Pilar.
