PANAJI: Goa’s Under-19 women’s cricket team endured a 57-run defeat against Tamil Nadu in the Elite T20 Tournament on Friday at the Railway Ground in Vadodara, marking their fourth consecutive loss in Group A. After restricting Tamil Nadu to 187 runs in 47.1 overs, Goa struggled in their chase and were bowled out for 130 in 38.5 overs. Tamil Nadu’s opener Hashini top-scored with 35, while lower-order contributions helped the team recover from 80 for 5 to post a competitive total.
Goa’s bowlers delivered a spirited performance, with Vidhi Bhandare taking four wickets and Prachi Nikam claiming three, while Harshita Yadav and Athashree Shivarkar chipped in with two and one wicket respectively. Their efforts helped curb Tamil Nadu’s scoring rate for much of the innings. Chasing 188, Goa lost early wickets and slumped to 23 for 4 and later 82 for 9. Athashree Shivarkar played a lone fighting innings, scoring 82 off 95 balls with 15 boundaries. She added 48 runs for the last wicket with Vidhi Bhandare, who remained unbeaten on 10, but their partnership was not enough to prevent the defeat, with 67 balls still remaining.
Goa will aim to end their losing streak in their final group match against Uttarakhand on Sunday, December 21.
