MAPUSA: Subhash Shirodkar, the Minister for Water supplies, has outlined his vision to safeguard the State’s water supplies and revitalize the agriculture industry, with an ambitious objective for Goa to end water shortages by 2047.
“I am working with a target that by 2047, Goa should not face any shortage of water,” said Shirodkar. Additionally, he provided updates on the Sal River project, which is anticipated to improve the state’s water supply.
“We have a project called Sal that will guarantee water reaches Calangute starting in 2025. But because the barrage is still being built, there might be some problems this year,” he said.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of revitalizing the Water Resources Department’s (WRD) agriculture sector.
Shirodkar stated, “Goans have been giving up agriculture, and soon we will need to take better care of our land,” in reference to the state’s declining agricultural activity. Farmers’ needs come first. There are perhaps 4,000 families involved, and we need to give them all the assistance they require.”
Shirodkar made these comments at a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the local tollem’s beautification project. He pledged to add benches and street lights to the tollem to make it a community gathering place.
MLA Aldona Carlos Ferreira, who attended the function, gave Shirodkar recognition for his commitment to the project and on-time completion.
“The Minister’s work demonstrates his dedication to the farmers and the State at large. Ferreira stated, “He fulfilled his promise well in advance of schedule.
