LONDON: In a remarkable display of athleticism and dedication, Somesh Velguekar, a renowned bodybuilder and owner of Impact Gym & Fitness in Goa, India, has made a significant mark at the recent FMC pro card British men’s bodybuilding fitness competition held in London.
Somesh not only secured first place in the men’s physique category in the over 35+ age group but also claimed the second prize in the classic physique category and a third-place finish in the overall men’s fitness competition.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it was Somesh’s second international bodybuilding competition. The event, which drew 85 competitors from various parts of the UK and Europe across 21 different categories, also saw participation from 38 female bodybuilders from around the world. Somesh was the sole Indian male bodybuilder and one of only eight Asian bodybuilders in the competition.
Somesh’s success is a testament to his hard work and the guidance he received from his coaches, including Lloyd from the UK, Govind from Goa’s Infinite Gym, Ashwini Kumar from Impact Gym Anjuna, and Valario Fernandes from the UK. He also acknowledged the crucial support from his wife, Sinatra, and his family and friends.
This prestigious international event highlighted the global reach and competitiveness of bodybuilding, with Somesh’s participation marking a significant milestone for Goan bodybuilders. His goal, as he explained, is to create an international platform for Indian and Goan bodybuilders to compete on a global stage.
Somesh’s Impact Gym has been a hub for fitness excellence, and by partnering with the British Physique Alliance (BPA), he aims to organize professionally managed events that cater to various body types and experience levels. This approach makes the competitions accessible to both seasoned athletes and newcomers. Looking ahead, Somesh plans to organize the Super Show Impact Gym Classic 2 in London next July and the ‘Mr Impact Vol 2’ event in Goa in March 2025, where he will award two pro cards to the winners to compete in the UK.
