Vasco: In a proud moment for Goa, two police officers, Police Inspector (PI) Razashad Shaikh and Head Constable Santosh Bhatkar, bagged medals at the 33rd National Bench Press and Powerlifting Championship, which was held at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina. The event, organized by the Goa Super Bodies Powerlifting Association, saw significant participation from across the state.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, who also serves as the Chairman of the Goa Super Bodies Powerlifting Association, expressed his delight at the achievements of the Goan police officers.
“I am extremely happy that Goa Police staff participated in the tournament, especially since it was hosted in Goa under my Chairmanship. This event gave a lot of opportunities to Goans, and we saw around 90 entries from the state. Police Inspector Razashad Shaikh, a personal friend of mine, has been consistently winning medals for the last three years and secured a bronze medal this year. Head Constable Santosh Bhatkar, attached to the Vasco Police Station, participated for the first time and won both gold and silver medals. It is a proud moment for Goa,” said Amonkar.
Vasco Head Constable Santosh Bhatkar, who participated for the first time in a national-level event, was overwhelmed by his success.
“I had heard that the national championship was being held in Goa, and though I had participated in state-level competitions before, this was my first national-level attempt. I am thankful to Sankalp Amonkar for organizing the event here, which gave me the chance to compete. Winning two medals in my first attempt is an incredible feeling. I encourage the youth to engage in exercise and bodybuilding to improve their physique and take inspiration from our achievements, even at this age. I owe my success to my coach, Mukesh Girap, for guiding me through,” said Bhatkar.
PI Razashad Shaikh, who has been a consistent medal winner, celebrated his third consecutive success in the championship.
“We were given a wonderful opportunity to participate in this event in Goa. I urge Sankalp Amonkar to consider hosting an international championship in Goa, which will further boost our state’s potential to achieve more laurels,” said Shaikh.
The achievements of these officers have brought pride to the state and highlighted the growing talent within Goa’s fitness community.
