Panaji: The Goan documentary Bhaangar Kalakusar Karigiri, directed by Prachi Shirodkar, has won the Best Documentary Award at the Amader International Short Film Festival 2026 held in Howrah, Kolkata. Shirodkar also received the Best Director – Festival Mention at the event, marking a double recognition for the film.
The documentary was selected from 15,678 entries submitted from across the world. The jury recognised the film for its storytelling, direction and artistic presentation. The festival brought together filmmakers from a wide range of cultural and creative backgrounds, making the award a significant international achievement for the Goan production.
Shot, directed and narrated by Shirodkar, the film was edited by Mario Pimenta. It features interviews with artisans Virendra Rivankar, Rashila Shirodkar and Pranay Shirodkar, while Haresh Shirodkar served as script consultant.
The documentary focuses on the traditional craft of Goa’s gold artisans, highlighting a field of cultural and historical importance that has received limited attention in mainstream cinema.
Shirodkar, a 28-year-old filmmaker from Porvorim, has previously received recognition at several film festivals, including awards for documentary filmmaking. She currently works as an assistant director and art director and is also involved in acting and visual art.
The latest award adds to her growing list of achievements and highlights emerging talent in Goan filmmaking on the international stage.
