PANAJI: Goa’s vibrant folk traditions took centre stage at Bharat Parv 2026 as traditional performers delivered a powerful showcase of the State’s cultural heritage on the festival’s third day. The performances drew enthusiastic appreciation from visitors and reinforced Goa’s identity as a land of living traditions rooted in community, ritual, and celebration.
Artists from Curti and Kelbai in Goa presented a carefully curated repertoire of traditional folk art forms that reflected the State’s cultural diversity. The programme featured Kalashi Fugdi, Jagar, Dekhni, and the iconic warrior dance Ghode Modni, each performance highlighting a distinct aspect of Goan life, from spiritual devotion and social harmony to valour and discipline. The presentation offered audiences an immersive experience of Goa’s ritualistic customs and artistic expressions that have been passed down through generations.
The performances were presented under the leadership of Shri Dinesh Priolkar, whose guidance ensured the authenticity and depth of the folk forms. The choreography, designed by Ms. Avani Khedekar, successfully balanced tradition with stage presentation, allowing the art forms to retain their original character while resonating with a national audience. Complementing the visual spectacle, the music was composed and directed by Dr. Saish Deshpande, whose compositions added rhythm, structure, and emotional intensity to the programme.
The performing ensemble included Shri Dinesh Priolkar, Shri Vipul Gaude, Shri Dhiraj Gaude, Shri Prashant Gaude, Smt. Manjita Naik, Smt. Nikita Gaonkar, Smt. Urpita Sawant, and Smt. Kiran Gaonkar. Their coordinated movements, expressive storytelling, and vibrant costumes brought each folk form to life, earning sustained applause from spectators throughout the performance.
The overwhelming response from the audience reflected a growing appreciation for traditional art forms and their relevance in contemporary cultural platforms. The Goan folk presentation not only entertained but also educated viewers about the State’s rich artistic legacy. By showcasing regional traditions in an inclusive national setting, the programme strongly supported the broader vision of Bharat Parv 2026, which aims to celebrate India’s diverse cultural heritage and preserve its artistic traditions for future generations.
