Panjim: Goa’s environmental short film Act To Achieve, directed by Mario Pimenta, has been officially selected for screening at the Egyptian American Film Festival (EAFF), to be held at the Center for the Arts, Staten Island, New York, from October 31 to November 4.
The festival, known for its theme “Cinema for Humanity”, celebrates films that promote creativity and social impact. The 2025 edition is dedicated to the memory of the legendary Egyptian actor and cultural icon Adel Imam. This year, the EAFF received more than 5,100 submissions from across the world, making the selection of Act To Achieve a significant milestone for Goan cinema.
Act To Achieve delivers a compelling message on environmental responsibility and climate action, urging individuals to take immediate steps to protect the planet. The film highlights how personal commitment and small actions can collectively bring meaningful change in addressing the global climate crisis.
Directed and led by Mario Pimenta, the short film stands out for its innovative approach, being shot entirely on a mobile phone. This creative choice underscores the potential of technology in empowering independent filmmakers to tell impactful stories on limited resources. Sharvi Dhond and Craig Rodrigues collaborated on the project, contributing to several key sequences that enhanced its visual and narrative depth.
The Egyptian American Film Festival is an annual international event in New York City that bridges the worlds of cinema, science, and art. It recognizes filmmakers whose work embodies creativity, innovation, and a strong humanitarian vision.
The selection of Act To Achieve marks a proud moment for Goa’s growing community of independent filmmakers, showcasing the state’s ability to produce thought-provoking cinema with a global message.
