PANAJI: Goan student poet Fiana Cael Gonsalves has been selected for the national-level poetry competition organised by Hashtag Kalakar, where her poem “Be The Change” has advanced to the jury-and-audience voting stage. She represents Goa as the only Goan participant among contestants from across India and abroad, marking a significant milestone in her creative journey.
Fiana, a law student from Goa Velha, currently studies at V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar. Beyond poetry, she is also a talented painter and an avid sports enthusiast with a love for football and badminton. She has excelled in athletics as well, winning in both long jump and triple jump events.
Her poem “Be The Change” reflects on the urgent environmental crisis caused by unchecked human greed. Through vivid imagery and emotional depth, the poem mourns the ongoing destruction of nature and warns of the consequences humanity may face if exploitation continues. Despite its grave message, the poem ends on a hopeful note, calling on readers to take action before it is too late and to make conscious choices that protect the planet’s future.
In this stage of the competition, scoring is divided equally between jury evaluation and audience participation, with approved comments contributing to the final score. Voting is open until 30th December 2025, and the results will be announced on 1st January 2026. Supporters are encouraged to vote and leave thoughtful comments to help amplify her voice and strengthen her message.
