PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Goan Students are showcasing interest toward ‘Sanskrit’ and are opting to learn the ancient language.
“It is heartening to witness that along with Marathi and Konkani, Goan Students are showcasing interest toward ‘Sanskrit’ and are opting to learn the ancient language,” said Sawant while speaking at the Bhasha Puraskar function organised by Official Language Dept.
He further said that teachers and literature enthusiasts and experts should inspire the younger generation to explore literature and ignite a passion among our youth for writing.
“By including multiple-choice questions in Konkani in the Goa Staff Selection Commission Examination, the commission has made knowledge of Konkani language mandatory, thereby enhancing Government job prospects for Goan aspirants,” he added.
Sawant also said that Goa government is contemplating introducing a long form answer type paper in Konkani for govt recruitment exams to inculcate the urge to learn Konkani among youth.
“In the long run, if written exam is introduced, they will have to learn to write in Konkani too,” he said, while speaking at the Bhasha Puraskar function organised by Official Language Dept.
He informed that for the first time Goa Staff Selection Commission had introduced MCQ paper in Konkani for govt job aspiring candidates in it’s recently held recruitment tests. Of the 900 students who answered the paper only 17 failed, said CM Pramod Sawant.
He added that when he checked the surnames of those who failed, he realised that they were not originally Goans. Introduction of Konkani in such exams will ensure that Goans enter into govt service, he added.
