MARGAO: A group of distraught youngsters from Goa approached BJP State President Damu Naik on Thursday, alleging that they were duped by a recruitment agent who had promised them jobs abroad in exchange for large sums of money.
According to the youth, the agent—who claimed to represent a recruitment agency—collected lakhs of rupees from each individual with the assurance of securing employment opportunities overseas. However, not only have the promised jobs failed to materialize, but the agent has also allegedly refused to return the money.
The group was accompanied by former Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva and Navelim-based social worker George Barretto. The youth made a passionate appeal to the BJP chief, urging him to intervene and help recover their hard-earned money.
Disturbingly, the victims also claimed that the agent has been issuing threats when approached for refunds. “Instead of returning our money, he is now threatening us with dire consequences,” said one of the youth.
After attentively hearing their grievances, BJP State President Damu Naik assured the delegation that he would escalate the matter to the Chief Minister and seek prompt action.
Among the victims, one individual revealed that he had paid the agent between ₹11 to ₹12 lakh, while another disclosed that he had handed over ₹24 lakh in hopes of securing a job in the United States.
Former MLA Caitu Silva urged the government to step in and ensure justice is served for the 8–9 affected youngsters who are now left with neither the promised employment nor their life savings.
