PANAJI: “We cannot rely on natural resources and energy for long as they are depleted day by day. We have to be very serious about the consumption of energy and opt for alternative sources of energy. Conservation of energy requires people’s participation where the Government alone cannot be successful,” said Minister for Environment and Judiciary Aleixo Sequeira.
He was addressing at a function organized to celebrate National Energy Conservation day organised by the Department of Electricity.
Sequeira said for an effective energy conservation campaign the Minister said the Government has initiated various steps to inform people about the importance of energy conservation and bring in use of equipments which reduces the consumption of energy. “This year the energy conservation campaign was taken at the high school level to make the students participate and to educate their family members, people around them and who can become best ambassadors of energy conservation,” he added.
The Minister further also said that energy conservation is the need of the hour.
“Our natural sources of energy are limited and therefore we have to use them judiciously and avoid those which pollution generates. If we want to secure our existence, conservation of energy and environment is a must,” he reiterated.
Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes while speaking at the function said that energy conservation should be our concern and exhorted the students to educate the masses about the need and importance of the conservation of energy.
He said the Government takes various measures towards the conservation of energy. Energy is a limited source and we have to make judicious use of taking into view our future needs.
He urged to use the electrical equipment which curbs power.
In order to mark the celebration the Electricity Department Energy Efficient held a campaign for High Schools.
The winners of the campaign were Government High School Guleli, Government High School Tambdi Surla, and Government High School Balli stood first, second and third respectively.
The winners of consolation prizes were Government Zuarinagar, Vasco, Government High School Mangur, Government High School Sal.
The Corporate winners who were selected for the Best Practices in Energy Conservation & Efficiency were Vedanta Ltd. Paradeep Phosphates, The Lalit Golf & Spa Resort Goa Ashish Dhanaopia Energy Manager Nilkanth Panandikar Chief General Manager, and Mr Ajeet Sharma received prizes on behalf of their respective companies.
Gautam Naik and his Team presented the best skit on Energy Conservation.
Supdt. Electrical Engineer Shri Mayur Hede, Supdt. Electrical Engineer Shri Rajiv Samant. Representatives from the Industrial Sector were among those who attended the function.
Smt. Meghana Kulkarni compered the function while Executive Engineer Shri Rajiv Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
