PANAJI: Goa’s Arjun Rehani produced a sensational run to enter the Men’s Singles final of the Individual events at the Yonex Sunrise Inter State Badminton Championships. Rehani stunned top seed Varun Kapur of Maharashtra 21-19, 21-18 in the quarterfinals before maintaining his momentum with a dominant 21-10, 21-14 win over Gujarat’s Tushar Sharma in the semifinals. He will now face Gujarat’s Adheep Gupta in the championship match.
Another Goan shuttler, Arjun Bhagat, impressed in the Boys’ U19 category with a hard-fought quarterfinal win over Maharashtra’s Arjun Reddy, edging him 23-21, 18-21, 21-16. However, Bhagat fell just short of reaching the final, losing a tense semifinal to Vaibhav Singh of Chhattisgarh 16-21, 21-19, 15-21. The finals will be held on Saturday, starting from 9 AM onwards.
In other results, Gujarat’s Aishani Tiwari advanced to the Women’s Singles final with a 21-19, 22-20 win over Maharashtra’s Saad Dharmadhikari, while Karva Marvaniya progressed after Purva Barve retired at 11-8. In Men’s Doubles, Maharashtra’s Arya Thakore and Dhruv Thakore overcame Madhya Pradesh’s Piyush Bobade and Yash Raikwar 21-8, 10-4 (Retired). The Women’s Doubles saw Maharashtra’s Anagha Karandikar and Siya Singh defeat Goa’s Synnnovia D’Souza and Yasmin Sayed 21-10, 21-12, while Madhya Pradesh’s Aishwarya Mehta and Priyanka Pant staged a comeback to beat Gujarat’s Shenan Christian and Yuti Gajjar 10-21, 21-18, 21-18.
The Boys’ U19 Singles saw top seed Dev Kumavat of Madhya Pradesh edge past Maharashtra’s Rutva Sajwan 19-21, 21-17, 21-16, while Chhattisgarh’s Vaibhav Singh defeated Goa’s Arjun Bhagat 21-16, 19-21, 21-15 to secure a place in the final. In the Girls’ U19 Singles, Gujarat’s Kavya Marvaniya stunned Maharashtra’s top seed Yutika Chavan 21-14, 21-15, and Madhya Pradesh’s Anushka Shapurkar got past Aneeri Kotak of Gujarat 21-14, 21-17.
Chhattisgarh’s Divyansh Agarwal and Saurav Sahu cruised to victory in the Boys’ U19 Doubles with a 21-10, 21-6 win over Gujarat’s Mohammed Ali Mir and Prince Mishra. Maharashtra’s Arjun and Aryan Birajdar survived a tough challenge to beat Madhya Pradesh’s Angat Muchhal and Dev Kumavat 21-10, 18-21, 21-17. In the Girls’ U19 Doubles, Maharashtra’s Shravani Walekar and Taarini Suri defeated Madhya Pradesh’s Astha Sharma and Krati Tiwari 21-12, 21-13, while Chhattisgarh’s Rashi Mall and Shweta Pardeshi overcame Gujarat’s Archi Ghetia and Swara Raigandhi 21-13, 21-19.
