PANAJI: The Goa Soccer Beach, Beach Volleyball and Sepak Takraw teams were felicitated on Thursday for their outstanding performances at national level competitions. The ceremony was held at the Goa Legislative Assembly premises in Porvorim, where the athletes were recognised for bringing laurels to the state.
The felicitation was led by Sports Minister Dr. Ramesh Tawadkar, who congratulated the players for their dedication, discipline and competitive spirit. The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the Goa Film Development Corporation Dhaku Madkaikar, Director of Sports Dr. Ajay Gaude, High Performance Director of Khelo India Goa Sumith M R, along with senior officials of the Sports Authority of Goa.
During the ceremony, the Beach Volleyball team was honoured for securing the gold medal, showcasing dominance and consistency throughout the tournament. The Goa Beach Soccer team received accolades for winning the silver medal after a strong campaign against top opponents. The Sepak Takraw team was also felicitated for clinching the bronze medal, highlighting the state’s growing presence in diverse sporting disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister praised the athletes for their hard work and commitment, stating that their success reflects the steady progress of sports development in Goa. He emphasised the government’s continued support for nurturing talent across traditional and emerging sports, particularly beach and coastal disciplines where Goa has a natural advantage.
Officials present at the event echoed the sentiment, noting that sustained training, infrastructure development and performance driven programmes are helping Goan athletes excel at the national level. The ceremony concluded with encouragement to the players to continue striving for excellence and to inspire young athletes across the state.
The felicitation served as a celebration of Goa’s sporting achievements and reinforced the state’s focus on promoting high performance sports and athlete development.
