PANAJI: Cooperation Minister Subhash Shirodkar announced that Goa’s cooperative sector has continued its upward trajectory, clocking a turnover of ₹13,523 crore for the financial year 2023–24 — a notable rise from ₹9,923 crore recorded in the previous year.
He added that the audit for the current financial year (2024–25) is presently underway.
Sharing details on the sector’s performance, Shirodkar said Goa has about 1,000 active cooperative credit institutions, including dairy cooperatives, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), and cooperative banks, all of which play a vital role in supporting the State’s rural economy and farming community.
In a significant move to strengthen education and skill development in the cooperative sector, the government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tribhuvan University to launch certification and degree programmes in cooperative studies.
The minister further announced that the State will celebrate Cooperation Day on November 1, followed by Cooperation Week from November 14 to 20, featuring several initiatives aimed at enhancing awareness and public participation in Goa’s cooperative movement.
