Panaji: The Goa Association of Resident Doctors has devided to withdraw its services from ESI COVID Jospital over accomodation issue.
GARD in a press note gas said that
they have been informed by the administrators of COVID hospitals that all resident doctors working in ESI/SGDH will have to vacate their accommodation by tommorow itself.
“However our transport will be arranged to and fro from GMC. No official order/intimation is given yet regular travel of resident doctors over such long distance is exhausting after prolonged duties in COVID hospital with PPE,” GARD says.
Apart from this, the GARD says, there are residents posted in critical areas who are on call 24*7 and it will be next to impossible for them to attend calls with a travel transit of one hour.
“The safety of residents, especially females, during such a transit is also questionable, more so after night duties,” they said.
Further they said it is even more surprising that we have been informed by authorities that we can continue to stay provided we pay from our own pockets.
“Most of of our Junior residents are working diligently despite irregular salaries since the last 5 months and now we are being asked to pay for our stay for serving the people of Goa in COVID 19 pandemic which is unacceptable,” GARD says.
GARD says the doctors are distressed with such a decision and are left with no other option but to retract our services from ESI/SGDH.
“Similar problem was encountered two weeks back and we were assured by the government regarding issue of accommodation. We wish to continue to give our best services to the people of Goa but under current circumstances its next to impossible. We are waiting for government to resolve the issue and will withhold services till further response from the government,” GARD says.
