CANACONA: Renowned cardiologist Dr. Ajit Desai, hailing from Canacona, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cardiology and Contribution to his Alma Mater by Topiwala National Medical College & BYL Nair Charitable Hospital.
Dr. Desai, who began his journey at the institution in 1971, has carved a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades. He is recognized as one of the eminent experts in interventional, non-invasive, and pediatric cardiology, with vast experience in procedures such as coronary angioplasties, pediatric angiographies, balloon mitral valvuloplasties, and other advanced cardiac interventions.
An accomplished scholar, student leader, and sportsman during his college days, Dr. Desai is also a celebrated badminton player, having won silver medals at the World Masters Championships in Melbourne (2002) and Edmonton (2005).
Currently associated with Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai, Dr. Desai has made significant contributions to cardiology through his clinical practice, research, and publications in national and international journals. He has also been a prominent voice at seminars, symposiums, and conferences across the globe.
Dr. Desai was recently in his hometown, Canacona, during the inaugural function of the multi-purpose auditorium of Centro Promotor de Instrucao’s Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya at Char-Rasta, an event graced by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
