PORVORIM: Minister for Fisheries Nilkanth Halarnkar said that the total fish catch for the last 5 years is 34989 tonnes.
“The marine fish catch was 33586 tonnes while the inland fish catch was 1403 in the last 5 years,” said Halarnkar.
He further said that total 24 numbers of complaints were received by the Department against using LED lights for fishing.
“Five cases are filed against the violators in the Court of Adjudicating Officer, and the penalty is imposed as per section 21 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Marine Fishing Regulation Act 1980, and show cause notices were issued to the remaining violators,” he said.
He further said that Department conducts Day Night patrolling in territorial waters of Goa up to 12 Nautical Miles. Land patrolling is also conducted by the Fisheries Officers at the jetty.
“Use or installation of the fishing gears such as LED lights, fish light attractors or any other light equipment with or without a generator, on a mechanized fishing vessel or motorized fishing craft, for trawling, purse-seining or gill netting,” he added.
The minister informed that the Department is conducting routine patrolling at sea and also land patrolling/ inspection to check LED fishing equipment’s on-board.
