VASCO: In a significant milestone for Goa’s infrastructure development, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Union Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for their substantial investment in the state’s infrastructure. This acknowledgement came on the heels of the inauguration of several major projects and the laying of foundation stones for various other initiatives by Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with other esteemed dignitaries, inaugurated projects valued at over ₹4,200 crore.
These projects are part of a broader effort to enhance Goa’s connectivity, tourism, and socio-economic development.
One of the highlighted projects is India’s first curved flyover-cum-cable-stayed road overbridge (ROB), stretching 8 km from Ravindra Bhavan Baina to MPT Gate 9, which is estimated to cost ₹644 crore.
This project is expected to significantly improve connectivity to Mormugao Port, thereby boosting tourism and economic growth in the region.
CM Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized the state’s commitment to implementing a long-term, efficient mobility plan. This plan includes reducing travel time across key routes such as Patradevi to Pollem, Vasco to Ponda, and Panaji to Ponda.
The “Double Engine Sarkar” concept, which refers to the collaborative efforts between the state and central governments, is expected to drive these projects forward, ensuring they are delivered on time and contributing to the vision of a “Viksit Goa” and “Viksit Bharat”, he said.
One of the notable ongoing projects in Goa is the Porvorim Elevated Project, a 5.2 km elevated highway corridor connecting to the new airport at Mopa. Despite facing challenges such as heavy rainfall and steep geological slopes, the contractors, RRSM Infra, have made significant progress, completing 50% of the work in just four months. This project is expected to be completed by December 2025, ahead of its scheduled deadline of April 2026.
