PANAJI: Digital payments in Goa continue to register steady growth, with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in January 2026 touching Rs 6,064 crore, according to the latest data.
The January 2026 figure marks a significant rise compared to Rs 5,990 crore recorded in December 2025 and Rs 5,030 crore in January 2025. In January 2024, the transaction value stood at Rs 4,317 crore, indicating consistent year-on-year growth in digital payment adoption across the state.
Earlier figures also show an upward trend, with Rs 5,427 crore recorded in December 2024 and Rs 5,629 crore in May 2025, reflecting increasing consumer reliance on UPI-based payments for daily transactions.
In terms of transaction volume, Goa recorded 4.03 crore UPI transactions in January 2026, slightly higher than the 4.02 crore transactions in December 2025. The marginal increase suggests stable and sustained usage of digital platforms by residents and businesses alike.
When compared with larger states, Goa’s total transaction value remains modest due to its smaller population size. In January 2026, Maharashtra led with transactions exceeding Rs 2.67 lakh crore, followed by Karnataka at Rs 1.64 lakh crore and Uttar Pradesh at Rs 1.53 lakh crore. Goa, by comparison, reported Rs 6,064 crore for the same month.
The steady rise in both transaction value and volume highlights the growing penetration of digital payment systems in Goa, driven by increased smartphone usage, improved internet connectivity, and wider acceptance of UPI across retail outlets, service providers, and government services.
With digital transactions becoming a preferred mode of payment, the state’s UPI numbers are expected to continue their upward trajectory in the coming months.
