Mapusa: Day Four of the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025 at Peddem saw impressive performances from Goa’s emerging talents, with several local players registering memorable wins against top national contenders.
Leading the charge was Dimple Revankar of Goa, who paired with Tanishka Ganji from Telangana to register a thrilling victory in the Girls Doubles U15 qualification round. The Indo-Telangana duo edged past Sadana Madhusudhanan and Smridhisha Prabhu of Tamil Nadu in a tense match that went the distance — 15-9, 18-20, 15-12 — to secure their place in the main draw.
In the Boys Doubles U17 category, Goa’s Shaurya Naik and Vansh Khedkar thrilled the home crowd by overcoming the formidable pair of Mainak Chakraborty (West Bengal) and Arjiv Hazarika (Assam) in a closely contested battle. After dropping the first game 12-15, the Goan duo bounced back with dominant performances in the next two games to seal the match 15-5, 15-12.
Adding to Goa’s celebration, the Girls Doubles U15 team of Anaya Kamat and Aaryaa Metry pulled off a stunning upset by defeating third-seeded Hansika Avula and Rishitha Tadidari of Telangana. In another three-game thriller, the Goan pair triumphed 15-9, 6-15, 15-10.
Despite these standout wins, it was a mixed day for other Goan players. In the Boys Doubles U17, Devansh Sakpal and Eshaan Lagu fell short against Swarit Satpute and Abheek Sharma (Maharashtra), losing 15-6, 15-6. Similarly, Shane D’Souza and Karthikeyan N. lost a hard-fought battle to Bhargav Jeevitesh and Hrehaan Pradhan (Odisha) 15-8, 20-18.
In the Mixed Doubles U17, Goa’s Ritika Chelluri, alongside Vinayaka Mani (Andhra Pradesh), exited after a 15-13, 15-10 defeat to Abheek Sharma and Safa Shaikh (Maharashtra).
Goan players also faced tough competition in the Girls Singles U15 as Aditi Dhargalkar and Anaya Manohar Kamat were overpowered by their Gujarat opponents in straight games.
Meanwhile, the national seeds lived up to their billing across various categories:
• In Boys Singles U15, third seed Eswar Sai Katam (Karnataka) defeated Syed Zayan Ali (Chhattisgarh) 15-8, 15-11, while 11th seed Lakshay Choudhary (Delhi) outplayed Rehaan Dudekula (Andhra Pradesh) 15-9, 15-2.
• In Girls Singles U15, second seed Mehvish Kaur (Punjab) cruised past Anushree G. S. (Tamil Nadu) 15-11, 15-3. Fifth seed Nimeesha Ojha (Odisha) got the better of Sahithi Sree Nagireddy (AP) 15-13, 15-9.
• In the Girls Singles U17 draw, top seed Shantipriya Hazarika (Assam) and eighth seed Nitya Jadon (Madhya Pradesh) progressed smoothly with convincing wins.
The tournament continues to draw attention for showcasing the next generation of Indian badminton talent. With Goa’s young shuttlers punching above their weight, the local fans have plenty to cheer for as the event heads into its crucial stages.
