Vasco: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has issued a stern warning to residents of Vaddem against dumping sewage into the open nullah that flows into Vaddem lake, a site for Ganesh visarjan ceremonies.
Godinho said the practice not only pollutes the water but also disrespects a sacred space. He warned that violators will face strict action, including disconnection of power and water supply.
Urging people to adopt proper waste disposal methods, the minister advised residents to use sewage tanker services, which transport waste to the Woow Plant. The plant treats sewage water and converts it into usable water for gardening and other non-potable purposes.
While the tankers normally charge a nominal fee of ₹2,000, Godinho assured that he is willing to provide the service free of cost for those unable to afford it. “We will not allow sewage to be discharged in the open under any circumstances,” he asserted.
