CUNCOLIM:
An in-depth investigation by Goencho Avaaz into the illegal Paroda hill cutting undertaken under the Cuncolim MLA Shri Clafasio Dias’s patronage revealed a shocking cross-connection between MLAs and Ministers.
Addressing a press conference, Goencho Avaaz said the collaboration did not extend only to executing illegal activities but also in threatening officials trying to stop the illegalities.
A few months ago, the incident in question occurred when alert villagers filed complaints with the Flying Squad regarding illegal hill cutting in Paroda.
“When the officials came for site inspection, the MLA is alleged to have sent some women who are believed to be employed in his alleged illegal business to beat up the complainant and his companion,” Goencho Avaaz said.
They said in arrogance that the MLA went so far as to record the beating through his henchmen and make it viral. Such “goondaism” practised by elected representatives reveals the state’s distressing lack of law and order.
“In fact, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Portfolio, had admitted his helplessness when he advised people to remain indoors to protect themselves. Fortunately, the report received from the Collector’s Office brings out the massive hill cutting and nails the lies of the MLA, who had denied the illegality,” said Captain Viriato Fernandes of Goencho Avaaz..
He said it was unfortunate, though not unexpected given the current abysmal law and order situation in the state, that the Police refused to entertain the Complaint against assault by the MLA’s goons.
“What came as a surprise was the revelation from reliable sources in the Police department that a senior Police officer was pressurising the local cops not to entertain the Complaint under the influence of the Cuncolim MLA,” he said.
