CALANGUTE: Calangute Police have arrested a 18-year-old youth from Karnataka in connection with a gold chain snatching incident involving a foreign national at Baga.
The incident occurred on December 11, 2025, when a German tourist staying at a guest house in Baga reported that an unknown man forcibly entered his room and snatched a gold chain weighing about 20 grams, valued at approximately ₹2.40 lakh, before fleeing from the spot.
Following the complaint, Calangute Police registered Crime No. 169/2025 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. Based on suspicion and technical inputs, the police detained Naveen Madivalar (18), a resident of Belgaum, Karnataka, and subsequently placed him under arrest.
During further investigation, a police team travelled to Belagavi, Karnataka, and successfully recovered the stolen gold chain involved in the offence.
The investigation was led by PSI Kiran Naik with the assistance of HC Vidhyanand Amonkar and police constables Vijay Naik, Amir Garad, Rajesh Kandolkar, Raj Parab, Ganpat Tiloji, Gaurish Karbotkar, Smital Bandekar and Sandesh Kumbhar.
The probe was conducted under the supervision of PI Calangute Police Station Paresh Naik and under the guidance of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North District Harishchandra Madkaikar.
