Vasco: Gold jewellery and valuables worth around ₹20.6 lakh were stolen from a passenger travelling on the Poorna Express while it was passing through Goa on Sunday morning.
According to Vasco Railway Police, the theft occurred between 9:30 am and 10:00 am on October 19 when complainant Kailas P, a resident of Kerala, was travelling with his wife and daughter from Miraj to Ernakulam.
While the train was in transit between Londa Junction and Kulem Railway Station, an unknown person allegedly stole a pink-coloured handbag belonging to the complainant’s wife.
The bag contained six gold bangles, one gold necklace, one gold bracelet, six gold finger rings, five pairs of gold earrings, a Vivo mobile phone worth ₹60,000, and cash amounting to ₹62,700, collectively valued at approximately ₹20.6 lakh.
Police said the theft was committed for fraudulent gain and that a case has been registered. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Krishna Talpi of Vasco Railway Police Station.
