New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is set to convene at 11 am today at Seva Tirtha, marking its first meeting at the new office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The previous meeting was held on February 13 at the Prime Minister’s Office in South Block, shortly before the official shift to the new complex.
During the final meeting at South Block, the Prime Minister reflected on the historic significance of the building. He spoke about key milestones associated with it, including the early years after Independence. He noted that the first four cabinet meetings led by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, were held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also highlighted that strategies for the country’s four major wars were formulated in South Block’s war room, underscoring its central role in India’s governance and security history.
Cabinet meetings under the current leadership are known not only for discussions on policy agendas but also for broader reviews of significant developments during the week. The Prime Minister encourages ministers to share feedback and suggestions, fostering an interactive approach to governance.
A distinctive feature of these meetings is the sharing of “good news” by ministers. Members of the Cabinet are invited to present positive developments from their respective ministries, including successful policy outcomes, infrastructure milestones, or reforms that have benefited citizens. At times, personal milestones are also shared, contributing to a collegial atmosphere.
The Cabinet Secretariat has also been relocated to Seva Tirtha to streamline administrative coordination. With the new Parliament building, the Prime Minister’s Office, his upcoming residence, and key ministries situated within close proximity, the restructured complex is expected to enhance efficiency and reduce disruptions caused by frequent high level movements across the capital.
