PANAJI: Minister Subhash Shirodkar acknowledged that the drug trade exists in Goa but asserted that the government is firmly committed to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
“There is no doubt that the drug trade exists in Goa. However, our government is committed to ensuring zero tolerance towards drugs,” Shirodkar said.
He stressed the need for a stronger crackdown on sectors linked to tourism, stating that drug-related activities are more prevalent in tourism-driven areas. According to the minister, coastal belts have been particularly affected.
Shirodkar also expressed concern over the spread of drugs into residential areas, including villages and regions close to educational institutions. “I agree that the problem has reached near schools and village areas, which is a matter of serious concern,” he said.
The minister said the government is intensifying enforcement measures and coordinating with law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking and protect vulnerable sections of society.
