PANAJI: The State government has constituted a committee to identify land for a permanent Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) campus.
The committee constitued consists of North and South District Collectors, Secretary Revenue and Education, Director of Technical Education and Director of Settlements and land records.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant hadsaid that a committee will be constituted to decide on the land to be granted to the IIT in Goa.
“A committee of experts and knowledgeable persons will look into the available options for the IIT Goa,” Sawant said. He had added, “IIT has to be established in Goa and the government is serious about this.”
After months of agitation by the villagers of Shel-Melauli who wanted the IIT in their village scrapped, the government gave in and decided to shift the institute from the taluka. The Chief Minister had said that an alternative plot of land would be made available to the IIT for their campus.
