
PANAJI: Massive drive was carried out by the Department of Legal Metrology in Margao, Goa as the monsoon season has arrived for the purpose of inspection of mandatory declaration on the Umbrella, Raincoat and Rice Bag Packages under the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
Two cases were booked in Malbhat, Margao, Goa and seized 696 packages of Umbrella of various brands, 214 packages of Raincoats of various brand and 2500 packages of Expando Brief.
With respect to Umbrella and Raincoat packages, the said packages does not bear mandatory declaration such as Name and complete address of the manufacturer and Month and year of manufacturing/pre-packing, Customer care details incase of consumer complaints which is in violation of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
With respect to Expando Brief packages, the said packages does not bear mandatory declaration such as Month and year of manufacturing/pre-packing which is in violation of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
Another Packaged Commodities case was booked at Powerhouse Circle, Margao, Goa from a Telangana Vehicle Truck which had come for distribution and seized 100 Packages of Rice Bags of 25 kg for not bearing mandatory declarations such as Name and complete address of the manufacturer/packer and Customer care details incase of consumer complaints.
The said raid was carried out by Demu N. Mapari, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Margao, Goa, under the supervision of Shri Nitin P. Purushan, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao Goa and assisted by Shri Sudhir K. Gaonker, Shri Pascoal Vaz and Shri Nitesh Navelkar.
The said packages are seized for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
All the consumers are hereby informed that before buying any packaged commodity, they should check the below mentioned mandatory declaration such as:
Name and complete address of the manufacturer/packer/importer;
Common generic name;
Country of origin in case of imported packages;
Month and year of manufacture/pre-packing date/import date;
Maximum retail price;
Name and complete address of the person and the office, email, address and contact number which can be contacted in case of consumer complaint.
The department said the drive will go on till the violation under the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, is eradicated.
