PONDA: Govt distributed a relief fund of Rs 70 lakhs to last year’s (23 July) flood victims in Ponda Taluka.
As per information by Ponda Disaster Team officials there were 471 cases reported wherein people were affected due to flooding of Khandepar and Ganjem rivers flowing from Ponda Taluka and most of the affected people were at Usgao- Ganjem, Khandepar and Priol.
Among these 21 houses were fully damaged with most of them at Usgao –Ganjem and six at Khandepar and Priol.
The officials said the PWD Official team and Talathis of Local Panchayat had made the valuation of houses collapsed as also as partially damaged houses.
He said the pucca house damaged was given compensation of Rs 2 lakh, kuchha house fully damaged was given the help of Rs 1 lakh, partially damaged pucca house given Rs fifty thousand, partially damaged kaccha house given Rs 20,000 beside relief to other affected people according to the valuation of loss done by officials.
Meanwhile, most of the flood victims whose houses were fully collapsed said the compensation declared by the government amounting to Rs 2 lakh for pucca houses and Rs one lakh for kaccha houses was insufficient to reconstruct fully damaged houses.
However many of them re-constructed their houses with aid of government compensation, besides financial help from friends, relatives, NGOs and Politicians. The MG Party also constructed three collapsed houses at Khandepar. Still some houses are in the construction stage and are incomplete.
It may be recalled that last year the Ponda Disaster Management team inspection report revealed that on 23 July flood Ganjem-Usgao was worst hit followed by Khandepar and parts of Priol in Ponda Taluka with 21 families became homeless with houses were found fully damaged( collapsed), 95 were partly damaged, while 310 were partly submerged under water.
Altogether total flood-affected houses were 426 and a huge amount of loss due to damage to house property, especially on the banks of the Khandepar river and Ganjem river.
The flood-hit at houses at Usgao-Ganjem followed by Murdi-Khandepar, Khandala, Vagurme and Savoiverem. According to the Deputy Collector report, Usgao –Ganjem was the worst hit with 231 houses affected 15 houses were fully damaged, partly damaged were 56 and 160 houses were affected due to entry of flood water.
