PANAJI: The State government has amended the Goa Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Rules, 1975, paving the way for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students to secure recognition equivalent to SSC and HSSC certificates.
Under the revised rules, students who have passed Class VIII and completed a two-year ITI course at a recognised centre, along with clearing the National or State Council for Vocational Training (NCVT/SCVT) exam, will be treated as SSC equivalent. Similarly, those who have passed Class X and subsequently completed ITI training as prescribed will be considered on par with HSSC certificate holders.
The amendment also covers cases where a student has completed a one-year ITI course at a recognised centre followed by a year of apprenticeship training in certified employment. Such candidates will also be eligible for equivalence status.
To avail of the benefit, the student must have resided in Goa for a minimum of three years.
The move aims to boost the academic standing of ITI graduates and enhance their career and higher education prospects.
