PORVORI: Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo said that the State government has to come clear why it delayed conducting the OBC reservations.
Speaking to reporters after the Congress Legislative Party meeting, Lobo said that the main discussion was the reservation for the OBC category, which the government denied through SEC notification.
“We demand to know why the data is not ready. Today at the last minute, you are trying to gather the data. We will not accept the hap-hazard survey. We want a thorough survey, which the government had enough time to do. We want to know why they delayed?” he said.
Lobo said the Supreme Court has clearly said that the OBC commission declares the reservation after a triple test.
“There should not be any injustice against the OBCs in the State. We want a thorough report. I am not saying the elections be delayed, but I say injustice should not be meted out to OBCs,” he said.
Lobo said that the government says it would go to Supreme Court, so be it.
“Our job is to tell the government what is wrong. That’s it. Let the government tell first why the government delayed the OBC survey for so long,” he said.
On reports of Assembly being curtailed, he said, there is no question of curtailing Assembly.
“Parliament is underway when there are elections held in States. I think the elections need not be curtailed as Budget is already presented in March,” he said.
