PANAJI: Minister for Panchayats Mauvin Godinho has said that state government is not aware whether open defeaction still exists in the State.
“A survey was conducted through the Self Help Groups and applications obtained from beneficiaries were submitted to Goa Waste Management Corporation, who is the agency concerned for construction/ installation of Bio-digester toilets,’ informed Godinho
He further said that Goa Waste Management Corporation is the concerned agency for installation/construction of bio-digester based toilets (IHHL) in the State of Goa and that DoP in order to achieve ODF status by 31st August 2019 in rural areas had requested GWMC to install IHHLs at 538 community locations in the State in July 2019.
“Construction of IHHL was affected due to heavy monsoon in 2019 and therefore in order to achieve ODF status by 31st August 2019, mobile toilets were installed for period of 30 days at those proposed community locations where construction of permanent IHHLs could not be completed before 31st August 2019. Mobile toilets were installed at 325 community locations and at each location two toilets were installed for period of 30 days,” he added
