PANAJI: In a significant move aimed at easing the burden on the aviation sector, the Central Government has directed a 25 per cent reduction in landing and parking charges at all major airports for domestic flights.
The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA), through an order issued on April 7, 2026, confirmed that the directive will be लागू for a period of three months with immediate effect.
The decision comes in the backdrop of the ongoing West Asia crisis, which has had a ripple effect on the aviation industry, including rising operational costs and route disruptions.
According to the order, AERA deliberated on the government’s directive under provisions of the AERA Act, 2008, and approved the reduction in public interest. The Authority exercised its powers to amend tariffs within the existing control period.
As per the notification, all domestic flights operating from major airports will benefit from the reduced landing and parking charges. The Authority has also stated that the situation will be reviewed before the completion of the three-month period.
AERA further clarified that any potential under-recovery in revenue due to the tariff cut will be adjusted during the next control period’s tariff determination process.
The move is expected to provide temporary financial relief to airlines and could potentially help stabilise airfares during the current volatile period.
