PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has informed that the government studying the possibility of outsourcing the Modern Abattoir of Goa Meat Complex to private companies for the period of ten years.
Aleixo Reginaldo has asked about the steps taken by the Government to ensure regular supply of beef in the State in view of beef ban in the neighbouring state of Karnataka;
“The estimated consumption of beef based on the meat inspection charges paid by beef dealers/traders is approximately 3,000 kgs/day. No shortage of Beef in the State is reported,” said CM Sawant
He further said that as there is a ban on slaughter and transport of animals in both the neighbouring States, government was not able to give a definite time frame for the Meat Complex to become operational.
When asked about the steps that the Government has taken to control the excess use of sodium preservation in fresh beef; CM said that the excess use of sodium preservation in fresh beef is not being used at Goa Meat Complex.
