Cansaulim: The acute shortage of doctors and medical staff at the Cansaulim Primary Health Centre (PHC) triggered concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly, with multiple MLAs raising the issue and demanding urgent intervention from the government.
MLA Antonio Vas highlighted that the PHC was grappling with a critical manpower shortage, which was severely affecting healthcare services for locals in the region.
“The lack of doctors and support staff is hampering healthcare delivery and putting patients at risk,” he stated, urging the Health Department to act immediately.
Joining the concern, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised pointed questions regarding the number of vacancies at the upgraded health centre.
He said the absence of adequate medical personnel was causing immense hardship to the local population.
Alemao pressed the government for a clear timeline on the appointment of staff and called for a concrete plan of action.
MLA Venzy Viegas also stressed the need for deploying an ultrasound machine and upgrading the facility further. “The PHC requires both equipment and human resources to function efficiently,” he said.
Responding to the members’ concerns, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane assured the House that the matter was being taken seriously.
“We will fill all the vacant posts and address infrastructure needs. A report will be submitted to the Chief Minister shortly. The government is committed to strengthening rural healthcare,” he stated.
The Minister assured the House of all necessary support to revamp the Cansaulim PHC, promising that corrective measures would be implemented soon.
