Rane assured that a team from the central government will visit Canacona and conduct a study in August.
Opposition MLAs and the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly raised the issue of long-standing kidney ailments and treatment failures faced by the people of Canacona to which the Health Minister assured to take short-term and long-term steps in fact-finding and facilitating treatment.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai said that in 442 Canconcars have CKD.
“Wants Government to find a reason for this and adopt Japan model to find the reason and bring CKD crises under control,” said Vijai.
Incidentally, years ago, when it came to light that a sizeable population was suffering from renal failure, the authorities had conducted studies.
However, the studies raised more questions than answers and the authorities are still grappling with reasons to explain the high percentage of patients in Canacona as compared to other talukas in the State.
