Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant underlined the need to provide more impetus to the cultivation of herbs and efforts be made to find and cultivate rare species.
Chief Minister was speaking at the 69th Wildlife Awareness Campaign ,2020 organized by Goa Forest Department at Van Bhavan, Panaji today.
Emphasizing the importance of preservation of wildlife, Dr . Sawant said that the observation of wildlife week is aimed at enhancing the consciousness of the people about the importance of protection and preservation of wildlife. Wildlife has a significant place in the life of human beings, he added.
Referring to the recently organised Bird Festival Chief Minister said , hinterland tourism and bird tourism on the line of IFFI will be promoted in a big scale. Goa has a good connectivity and more so, all the good birding sites are far from coastal areas. The Forest Department will provide a platform for naturalists, experts, bird photographer to meet and share their insights, which will open new Vista for ecotourism in hinterland, he added.
The Chief Minister released Film on Wildlife and presented commendation certificates to five Forest staffs for outstanding work in the field of wildlife on the occasion.
Principal Secretary, Forest Shri Punit Goel, IAS delivering the keynote address stated that wildlife week is an annual event celebrated every year to sensitize people for protection and conservation of wildlife. He said Government is making continuous efforts in conservation and protection of wildlife, in this direction various works are being carried out for habitat improvement including soil conservation works, he added.
Earlier on the arrival at the venue the Chief Minister was received by Shri Subhash Chandra,IFS, PCCF. Shri Santosh Kumar, IFS , Chief Wildlife Warden welcomed. Shri Sourav Kumar, IFS, Wildlife and Ecotourism later proposed vote of thanks.
