PANAJI: The future goal of the Government is to promote blue economy in a sustainable manner and the MOU signed with Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemuende, Germany is a step towards to encourage research and innovations in oceans stated Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant who was speaking at the function organized for signing of MOU between Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemunde, Germany at Goa University Dona Paula.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant speaking further said Blue Economy comprises a range of economic activities related to oceans, seas and coastal areas which we have to do in a sustainable manner. As a commitment to the blue economy the Government will extend all support to make the intention of MoU successful.
Minister for Environment, Law and Judiciary, Shri Aleixo Sequeira said the MOU is just not a formal agreement but it will pave the way for ocean research missions enabling to conduct interdisciplinary marine research with advanced optical technology in coastal seas. This MOU will also enable us to explore oceans, he added.
The Minister further said development is indispensable but should not be at the cost of environment and destruction of ecology. We have to opt for sustainable development with proper use of natural resources. This collaboration with Germany will help to foster scientific knowledge that is needed to implement the marine strategy for exploring the sources from oceans and seas to encourage a blue economy in future.
Vice-Chancellor Goa University, Prof. Harilal Menon in his welcome address highlighting the key features of MoU said life below water, concerns conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, and demands international cooperation for the oceans to get back in balance. MoU will be a significant step towards achieving the goal of a blue economy in future.
Director of Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemuende, Germany Prof. Dr. Oliver Zielinski also spoke on the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor of Goa University Prof. Harilal Menon in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Minister for Environment, law & Judiciary, Shri Aleixo Sequeira signed the MoU with the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemunde, Germany. The MOU will collaborate academic and research activities in the areas of interdisciplinary research, coastal modelling, material research and sensor development.
