PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today announced that the state government will give free surgical treatment to students with specs if necessary.
“Free surgical treatment will be given by Govt. Of Goa to students with spectacles if necessary,” said CM
He further said free eye check-ups for 2.10 Lakh students of 1st to 10th Std and Training Program for Teachers under the Vision For All programme.
“The Training Programmes for Teachers was held at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali and Rajiv Kala Mandir, Ponda,” he added.
Sawant said that Goa will be the first state in the country to screen the students’ eyes.
“Among every 100 students screened, there will be only 10 to 15% of students who may have issues pertaining to vision,” he added.
The CM said that they have to identify problems of short-sightedness, long-sightedness or if there is any other problem with the eyes.
“If we screen 2.1 lakh students, then we may get 20,000 students with vision issues, and out of that, 15,000 students may require spectacles, and all the students will be given spectacles free of cost, and it would be provided before the end of March,” Sawant added.
He said that in case a student requires surgery, then the parents will be consulted.
