Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of political betrayal and tokenism following the removal of Advocate Amit Palekar from the post of Goa State President.
In a press release issued by GPCC Media Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar, the Congress recalled that during the 2022 Goa Assembly elections, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had formally projected Palekar as the party’s chief ministerial face. According to the GPCC, the move was aimed at mobilising support from the Bhandari Samaj and broader Bahujan communities for electoral gains.
The Congress alleged that after deriving political benefit, AAP has now sidelined and humiliated Palekar, terming the action a betrayal of the Bhandari and Bahujan Samaj. The party claimed that this reflects a recurring pattern in AAP’s political conduct — offering symbolic representation to secure votes and subsequently marginalising leaders once elections are over.
The GPCC further stated that such practices erode the constitutional values of social justice and inclusive political participation, asserting that communities cannot be treated as expendable tools for electoral convenience.
Accusing AAP of hypocrisy, the Congress said the episode has exposed what it described as the party’s “use and throw” politics, hidden behind the rhetoric of reform and alternative governance.
