CURCHOREM: Mounting pressure from political leaders intensified in the Curchorem sex scandal case after leaders of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and the Goa Forward Party met Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Shirodkar on Monday, demanding a thorough and transparent investigation.
GPCC president Amit Patkar and Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai urged police to act firmly and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice without delay. The leaders stressed that the probe must be fair, time-bound and sensitive to victims.
Following the meeting, DySP Shirodkar confirmed that the main accused, Soham Shashikant Naik, son of a councillor, has been arrested. He said police have invoked stringent provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children’s Act, adding that more sections could be invoked as the investigation progresses.
DySP Shirodkar also issued a public appeal to victims to come forward and file complaints, assuring complete confidentiality and support. He further stated that those who may not be comfortable approaching the police directly can submit their complaints through the NGO run by Auda Viegas.
