Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar has strongly criticised the BJP government in Goa, alleging that senior BJP leaders and legislators have opposed recruitment through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to safeguard a “cash-for-jobs” ecosystem.
In a press note, Patkar said media reports have revealed a “shocking and deeply disturbing reality”, claiming that BJP ministers and MLAs openly opposed SSC-based recruitment in the presence of BJP National General Secretary B. L. Santosh. According to Patkar, the BJP leaders allegedly argued that merit-based recruitment would upset their own party karyakartas.
He said this opposition exposes the BJP’s real intent, stating that resistance to the SSC has nothing to do with administrative efficiency but is aimed at protecting corrupt practices in government recruitment. Patkar said SSC recruitment ensures transparency, fairness and merit, and prevents backdoor entries, favoritism and bribery.
“The people of Goa, especially educated youth, have repeatedly demanded transparent recruitment through the SSC to ensure equal opportunities. Instead of respecting these aspirations, BJP leaders appear more interested in appeasing party workers by distributing government jobs as political favours,” he said.
The GPCC president demanded that BJP National General Secretary B. L. Santosh clarify whether the media reports are true. He said the people of Goa have a right to know if the BJP intends to turn government jobs into commodities to be sold for money and influence.
Patkar asserted that the Congress party would not remain a mute spectator to what he termed a blatant betrayal of Goan youth. He said the party would continue to fight to ensure that government jobs are filled strictly on merit through transparent and independent mechanisms like the SSC.
“Goa’s youth are not for sale, and their future cannot be mortgaged for BJP’s political convenience,” Patkar said.
