Sanvordem: The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) has extended its support to villagers of Mirabag and Sanvordem opposing the BJP government’s proposed 50 MLD Bandhara project, alleging lack of consultation, transparency, and serious environmental risks.
Joining residents at the protest site, GPYC leaders said the project poses a “massive threat” to homes, agricultural land, and the natural river ecosystem. Protesters raised slogans of “Aamchi Mati, Aamcho Gaon – Aamka Naka Bandhara,” asserting that the project is being pushed ahead without adequate dialogue with local communities.
Addressing the gathering, GPYC representatives accused the state government of ignoring repeated demands for public consultation and details of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). They claimed that hundreds of houses, fertile fields, and the natural flow of rivers could be adversely affected if the project proceeds.
The youth wing of the Congress stated that the agitation is not against development, but against what they termed as “displacement disguised as progress.” Villagers, they said, are determined to safeguard their land and heritage for future generations.
The GPYC has demanded an immediate halt to all work on the Bandhara project, a transparent and comprehensive EIA process, and full respect for the voice of the Gram Sabha and local communities.
Reiterating its stand, the organisation said it would continue to stand “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the people of Mirabag and Sanvordem and fight what it described as injustice.
