CANACONA – Graves of the near and dear ones are decorated with flowers, while cemeteries are spruced up for All Souls Day (Wednesday) on Tuesday.
Almost all the cemeteries in Canacona deanery were cleared of overgrown weeds and other unwanted growth. Respective parishioners of the individual parishes also cleaned the buried individuals’ graves.
In a day-long activity, most of the graves were decorated in the Cemeteries of Chaudi, Sadolxem, Bhatpal, Ordhofond, Agonda, Loliem, Galgibaga and Chiplem. In most of the cemeteries, families of their buried members decorated the Graves of their near and dear ones according to their ways.
In a particular drive, all the parishioners in Agonda Church (Parish), however, joined to together level up all the different graves existing in the cemetery and commonly dressed up each of the Graves using flowers in the same manner in the village cemetery. Interestingly, all the graves in the entire cemetery were dressed up with specially ordered flowers. The cemetery compound was also decked with lightning.
Many of the parishioners who joined in decorating the cemetery then recited Rosary along with the parish priest Fr Patrick Luis and Assistant Parish Priest, Fr Darrell Fernandes, before dispersing for the night. Most parishes have scheduled early morning mass on Wednesday on the occasion of All Souls Day.
