VASCO: Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) president Agnelo Rodrigues slammed the fisheries director Dr Sharmila Moenterio for failure to implement the monsoon fishing order, which has commenced from 1st June to 31st July 2022.
He stated that GRE since inception that is since 1978 was demanding a monsoon ban for proper spawning of marine species due to the decline of fishing resources, but the fisheries department today has completely failed us, as it has repeatedly failed to implement and act on its order be it LED light fishing, Malphe bull walling and now the even the monsoon ban.
Rodrigues also demanded that fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar appoint a full-time fisheries director. The day would come that the fishermen would be displaced, and the fisheries department would become a ghost department.
Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott has demanded the fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar to immediately intervene and suspend all the licences of those who have violated the ban, failing which the GRE member across Goa will be forced to take law in hand.
