PANAJI: The Green Lung Project, a major initiative aimed at creating climate-resilient, green municipal spaces, was the focal point of a high-level review meeting conducted by the Forest Department in Goa.
The project seeks to restore ecological balance in urban areas by improving air quality, reducing heat, and providing citizens with accessible green spaces amid rapid urbanization.
Officials emphasized that the initiative is a crucial step towards sustainable governance, where city growth aligns with environmental preservation.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, highlighting the project’s significance, said, “The Green Lung Project is not just about planting trees—it is about building cities that are sustainable, resilient, and livable. This is our responsibility to ensure future generations inherit a balanced and healthy environment.”
The meeting also reviewed ongoing forest conservation initiatives, operational priorities, protection measures, and inter-departmental coordination. Kamal Datta (PCCF), K. Ramesh Kumar (APCCF), Praveen Kr Raghav (ACCF), and Naveen Kumar, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife & Ecotourism), contributed insights from ground-level operations to align policy intent with implementation.
Officials reiterated that proactive governance, timely interventions, and community participation are key to achieving the dual goals of urban livability and ecological sustainability.
